This Privacy Policy describes how Learn German (App Store title: Learn German Words & Phrases!) handles information. It applies to the iPhone and iPad app (com.lingocore.learnGerman) and the Apple Watch app (com.lingocore.learnGerman.watchkitapp). The primary App Store language is English (U.S.).
The operator of the app is the independent developer of Learn German. This policy is written from a review of the current application source code. It does not describe services the app does not include.
Information we collect
We do not collect personal information. Learn German does not operate a backend, user accounts, analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or other developer-accessible servers. The developer cannot see your learning progress, favorites, quiz history, Watch plan, or Settings.
Nothing in the app is transmitted to the developer or to a third-party data broker for advertising or tracking.
Information we do not collect
The app does not collect or request:
- Name, email address, phone number, or other contact information
- Account credentials or sign-in data
- Device advertising identifiers or tracking signals
- Precise or coarse location
- Health, fitness, financial, or government ID data
- Photos, camera, microphone, or speech-recognition recordings
- Browsing history, search history, or user-generated social content
- Purchase records beyond whatever Apple may process if you buy the app through the App Store
Information stored only on your devices
Learn German is offline-first. Learning content (German words, phrases, alphabet, translations, images, bundled pronunciation audio, and sound effects) is packaged in the app. The following items can be stored locally on your iPhone, iPad, and, if you use it, Apple Watch:
- Translation language preference
- Sound and haptics settings
- Favorite word and phrase identifiers
- Learned word and phrase identifiers
- Quiz miss records (content identifiers, miss counts, last quiz type, and timestamps)
- Apple Watch learning-plan draft (selected items, study window, deliveries per day, last local sync status)
On Apple Watch, a local cache can keep the latest synced German text, your translation, learner-language code, and study-window settings so cards remain available when the iPhone is briefly unreachable.
This on-device data is not an account. Uninstalling the iPhone app, deleting the Watch app, or erasing the device removes it. There is no cloud backup provided by Learn German.
Apple Watch
If you pair an Apple Watch and send a learning plan, the iPhone uses Apple WatchConnectivity to copy selected study items to your Watch. That transfer stays between your devices. It is not uploaded to the developer. The Watch app does not use a microphone, does not run speech recognition, and does not send push notifications through a developer server. Study-window times stored in the plan are local scheduling data, not a cloud reminder service.
Speech and audio
Pronunciation uses bundled German recordings when present, otherwise the device’s built-in text-to-speech (on iOS, Apple’s on-device speech synthesizer) in German. The app does not record your voice, does not use the microphone, and does not send spoken text to a developer speech API. Sound effects are bundled audio files played on the device.
Third-party software
The app is built with Flutter and uses on-device libraries for local preferences, local audio playback, and native text-to-speech. Those libraries run on your device. This version does not include advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, crash reporters, authentication providers, or in-app purchase SDKs.
Apple provides the App Store, device operating system, WatchConnectivity, and on-device speech. Apple’s handling of App Store data is described in Apple’s own privacy information.
Analytics, advertising, and tracking
Learn German does not include analytics, advertising, or cross-app tracking. It does not use the App Tracking Transparency framework.
Purchases
This version of the app does not implement in-app purchases or subscriptions. If you obtain the app from the App Store, payment is processed by Apple, not by a Learn German server.
Permissions
The iOS app does not declare microphone, camera, speech-recognition, location, tracking, or photo-library usage descriptions, because those capabilities are not used. Android debug and profile builds may request network access for Flutter tooling only; the product’s learning features do not require the internet.
Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share personal information, because we do not collect it. On-device data is not sent to our servers. It may be included in an encrypted device backup that you control through Apple if you use iCloud Backup or a computer backup; that is an Apple system feature, not a Learn German service.
Data retention
Local preferences remain on the device until you change them, clear app data, or remove the app. The developer retains no user learning database.
Security
Because learning state never leaves your devices through this app, the main safeguard is keeping the device locked and up to date. We do not operate a user data store that could be breached on our side.
Children’s privacy
Learn German is a general-audience education app. It does not require an account and does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. We do not knowingly obtain personal information from children.
International users, GDPR, and California rights
The app can be used without creating a profile with us. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California, the practical result is the same: we do not hold personal information about you that we could access, sell, or share. You can delete on-device data by removing the app. There is no developer-side copy to export or erase.
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are used in California privacy law.
Changes
If the app’s behavior changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and the effective date. Continued use of a later version of the app after an update means the revised policy applies to that version.

Questions about this policy can be sent through the Learn German Support page. That page is the App Store support destination for this app.
